License to cut bills: Dame Judi Dench takes on rival meerkats and vows to help you ‘save money now’ in the event of a shock from financial adverts on TV

  • Dame Judi Dench has teamed up with MoneySuperMarket for her new campaign
  • The actress is on a mission to help families save £1billion on household bills
  • The ad pits it against the long-running popular meerkats ad campaign

As an Oscar-winning force on stage and screen, Dame Judi Dench may not be as worried about the rising cost of living as the rest of us.

But the veteran actress, 87, is on a mission to help families save £1billion on household bills as she takes center stage in a new TV advert.

Dame Judi has partnered with MoneySuperMarket for its MoneySuperSeven campaign – involving a team of money saving specialists dedicated to saving money in Britain through credit cards and car, home and travel insurance.

This contrasts it with the popular meerkats (pictured) from comparethemarket’s long-running advertising campaign.

She is the latest “golden oldie” celebrity to turn to TV commercials.

Dame Judi plays Eight, the mysterious leader of the team, in a nod to her role as “M”, the head of MI6 in the James Bond franchise, a character she portrayed in seven films. “You thought I had retired?” Barely,” she told a team member.

“I was hired otherwise but now people’s bills are skyrocketing so I’m back.”

Veteran actress Dame Joan Collins and Sir Elton John have directed adverts for Snickers while American film legends Sylvester Stallone and Robert de Niro have both worked with bread giant Warburtons.

De Niro faced criticism for associating with the Bolton-based Bakers, which led to a £15million dividend payment for the bosses.

He told GQ: “Should I think I should never have done this?” Am I too good for this or what?

“And I said, fuck, I’m going to do it. Why not? Don’t blame me.
