Swiss chocolate maker Läderach opens 3 branches on Long Island

Swiss chocolatier Läderach (pronounced lae-der-ackh) opened its first three local stores, replacing Godiva Chocolatier at Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City, Walt Whitman Shops in Huntington Station and Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove.

The stores have over 85 artisanal chocolates, as well as a counter where customers can get hand-broken, custom-sized pieces of chocolate bark.

Break chocolate into flavors including strawberry-squark chocolate (sliced ​​white chocolate strawberries), black pistachio (dark chocolate roasted pistachios), confetti (colored chocolate drops with milk chocolate) and its bestseller , hazelnut milk (Piedmont hazelnuts grilled and caramelized in milk chocolate). Prices start at $ 11.90 a pound.

Its product line also includes a delicate selection of bars (chocolate bars), pralines and truffles, some of which contain alcohol. Läderach also throws his chocolate on popcorn, offering it in flavors of milk, caramel and strawberry.

Nathanael Hausmann, president of the company, said Läderach was expanding to physical stores on Long Island after seeing strong interest from the region in its online sales.

Läderach was started in 1962 by Rudolf Läderach Jr. in Glarus, Switzerland. Since its creation, the company has kept full control of the chocolate manufacturing process, from the cocoa harvest to its creations. The Läderach family is in its third generation of operating the business, which has more than 100 stores worldwide, including two in Manhattan. .
