Innovation is “part of everyday life” at UFlex. At the end of the April to June 2021 quarter, the company announced a host of remarkable products and solutions, across its businesses, which are expected to make packaging a better experience for brands and consumers, especially as a result of changing packaging trends.

Flexible packaging volumes were affected due to the second wave of Covid-19 that hit India during the April-May-June 2021 quarter. Despite the headwinds, the company continued its momentum of good performance and introduced a host of new innovations. It also commissioned its 10.4m wide BOPP film line in Hungary with a production capacity of 42,000 TPA.

Ashok Chaturvedi, President and CEO of UFlex said: “UFlex is on track to realize its vision of getting closer to its customers with manufacturing units across the world with the commissioning of the BOPP line in Hungary. and the commissioning of Nigeria. With consumers increasingly aware of what and how they consume, the packaging industry must be proactive in developing sustainable packaging without compromising the convenience and functional attributes of plastic. UFlex has made progress in the development of environmentally friendly products and solutions such as biodegradable packaging, water soluble bags, etc.

Flexible packaging company

Supporting the local spirit of the international chocolate brand Mars, UFlex developed a cold-seal BOPP film-based packaging laminate structure for the India launch of the premium chocolate brand Galaxy. Providing different sizes of chocolate for launch, this one-material structure facilitates recycling, helping Mars move closer to its sustainability goals.

In order to improve the appearance and usability of pharmaceutical packaging, the flexible packaging industry has replaced the high metal content and polystructure foil packaging traditionally used in Vicks Action 500 with a paper structure made of 40 mm OLB paper. g / m², LDPE and a sheet. This packaging format uses emerging high energy curing chemistries to provide high performance, low migration product systems that support crosslinking of high gloss inks and coatings. Cross-linking reactions provide scratch resistance, chemical resistance and color fastness. The overall process being environmentally friendly with no carbon dioxide emissions outperforms the traditional process in which solvents are used. With this new structure for the P&G branded Vicks Action 500 pharmaceutical packs, UFlex has succeeded in improving the aesthetics of the pack and repositioning it with a redefined appearance while significantly reducing CO2 emissions.

Spout pouch formats have gained worldwide acceptability for packaging due to their multiple attributes such as convenience, ease of storage and distribution, and reduction in transportation costs. The recent development of Wipro Softouch fabric softener has a three-layer polyester structure combined with the virtues of BON (bi-axially oriented nylon) and natural poly compared to the previous conventional four-layer structure, thus allowing a reduction in matter at the source. With a wider bellows at the base, this suit helps retain large amounts of liquid and has successfully replaced the previous structure while also meeting durability standards.

Chemical company

Aesthetics play a big role in writing a product’s success story. The new 1K Flexpak 2765 PU Matte Coating Resin provides an excellent matte finish on the surface of printed PET and BOPP films. This coating resin offers high heat and chemical resistance due to its high crosslinking densities which give an improved appearance to the package and create an instant connection with the consumer. Although there is a greater emphasis on safe food packaging that meets the goals of recyclability and sustainability, PU Flexpak 2765 resin meets high quality performance standards in accordance with packaging demand.

Packaging with compromised sealed ends can shatter consumer confidence. Flexbond SF WET LAM-1178 water-based synthetic adhesive technology, another new launch this quarter, is designed for side gluing and interior liner gluing in cartons, and can be used on all applicators at standard nozzle / roller. This adhesive is recommended on various laminated substrates such as BOPP, PET and also on PET metallized with cardboard; and is designed for “side and bottom mono carton sealing” compatible with high speed automated mono carton making machines. This ready-to-use adhesive offers excellent adhesion with a fast setting time and stability and has found acceptance in major brands such as KFC, MDH Spices and more.

Holography company

The forces of counterfeiting have always had a deterrent effect on the pharmaceutical sector. In order to prevent pharmaceutical brands from the threat of counterfeiting; The holographic company UFlex has developed holographic lidding sheets with a special invisible ink. This new offering has been designed, developed and engineered to increase the degree of difficulty and avoid duplication, while making it viable for the current user-side application configuration. This first-time development for the holographic blister sheet substrate includes the addition of a new security layer that includes hidden functionality by incorporating the invisible ink that is visible only under UV light, allowing brands to easily confirm the originality of the product throughout their value chain. On the other hand, the overt functionality helps consumers identify the genuine brand before any purchase, which helps build confidence in their favorite pharmaceuticals. Since this development is viable on the current packaging configuration, it does not bring any additional cost burden on the existing packaging lines.

Engineering company

With constant efforts in the category of new product development, the engineering business has designed a combined laminator for use in dry and solvent-free lamination processes. The combi laminator overcomes the change time challenge, thus saving time. This laminator combined with a user-friendly interface for the operator operates at a speed of up to 450 mpm and the two laminating units are pre-existing in a fixed frame which allows for greater precision with reduced downtime since no change is necessary. This combination laminator has generated a lot of commercial interest from processors and is best suited to packaging segments such as food packaging, building materials, dry chemicals, etc.

The demand for registered reverse coating has been high and to meet this demand, the engineering company has designed a laminating machine which enables registered heat seal lacquer coating and registered cold seal lacquer. With this new machine, coating on pre-printed substrates such as chocolates and candies, which was previously a difficult task, is now simplified.

Aseptic liquid packaging company

The innovation in foil stamping captivates the imagination of companies as they discover its uniqueness to help them mark their brand exclusivity quotient. After experiencing success with the new age foil stamping packs by Asepto for one of its IMFL brands, Radico Khaitan once again turned to the aseptic liquid packaging industry to manufacture aseptic packs with an aesthetic appeal. stamping for its brand UPML (Uttar Pradesh Manufactured Liquor) UDAAN. These packs create high brand appeal with superior aesthetics that make the pack shake the retail shelves. This rapid entry of gilding into aseptic packaging shows a very lucrative future for this innovation.

By continuously focusing on expanding its customer base nationally and globally, the aseptic liquid packaging company has added new brands to its customer base. Thirumala, a 100% subsidiary of South India-based dairy company Lactalis Group, chose Asepto to provide milk in its pillows while oral rehydration solutions maker FDC India collaborated to sell its ORS and energy drinks in Asepto packaging.
