Keeping your skin hydrated is an important part of your beauty routine, but finding the right body moisturizer isn’t always easy.
While some people need ultra hydration for dry skin, others like to use it more sparingly on parts of the body that need a hydration boost, such as the elbows and knees.
If you quickly browse the shelves at Boots, Superdrug, and budget stores like Home Bargains and B&M, you’ll find all kinds of body moisturizers that promise to perfect any skin problem imaginable. And the price tags vary just as much.

With that in mind, we decided to test a line of body moisturizers to see how the budget buys compared to more expensive products. Here are the results :
Soap & Glory, Fair Butter Body Milk

Personally, I don’t regularly use moisturizer for the body. I need it on my arms in the winter to relieve dry skin, but the rest of the year I tend to forget about it to be honest.
But when I remember it, I like to get on the scent a bit and generally prefer a creamy cocoa butter or something nicely flavored. I chose the Soap & Glory, Fair Butter Body Milk of Boots, because its label says the cream is formulated with shea butter and almond oil, which are exactly the kind of scents I love. It also contains vitamin E, rosehip seed oil, and aloe vera, all of which sound dreamy on the skin.
I paid £ 6 for a nice thick tube (250ml) to Boots, and once applied I realized it would go a long way. A small amount spreads gently on the skin and absorbs quickly, so you don’t need to spend ages rubbing it. The sweet scent hits you instantly and it lasted a few hours on my skin before I couldn’t smell it anymore.
After a few applications my skin was noticeably smoother and it softened in slightly dry areas on my elbows and knees. For a budget purchase, this is a good product to have in the closet, even if you are not a regular user of body moisturizer. I would definitely buy it again.

Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream

(Image: Jess Flaherty / Liverpool ECHO)
I have very dry skin so I used to hydrate myself regularly since I was 13 years old.
I’ve tried all kinds of lotions and potions, from premium brands to budget deals at the local supermarket, while on a mission to try and get the silky smooth skin I dream of. I have found many favorites over the years.
Currently I am completely obsessed with Brazilian Bum Bum Cream from Sol de Janeiro. Pronounced âboom boomâ in Brazil, the cream is not only for the butt but for the whole body. It promises to stimulate circulation to keep the skin firm and taut while providing needed hydration.
The formula has a light, silky texture that absorbs quickly without leaving your skin feeling greasy or oily – perfect if you’re in a perpetual rush like me.
It leaves my skin soft and smooth and although at 30 years old my skin tightening is not yet a problem, Bum Bum Cream still leaves my skin firmer and gives it a little more glow – and what ‘there is no love about it?
One of my most favorite things about cream, however, is the scent. It’s a dreamy, sweet but slightly nutty scent that I just can’t get enough of. No matter how many times I use this product, I am instantly soothed by the wonderful aroma every time I turn the lid of the decadent tub.
It’s definitely pricey, but a little goes a long way and I manage to make my 240ml jar last a few months – although it’s not something I’m always able to buy. This year, I challenged myself not to shop for clothes for the whole of 2021, so I have some money aside now that my shopping addiction is somewhat under control.
Whenever possible, this product is something I always stock up on and definitely recommend giving it a try.
Price: £ 44 for a 240ml jar, or £ 18 for a 75ml jar

Cocoa Intensive Care Vaseline Radiance Body Lotion

(Image: Echo of Liverpool)
I’m a skincare enthusiast, so when it came to looking for a body moisturizer I was pretty special.
I tend to have dry skin on my body so I was looking for something that would ensure my skin was taken care of, especially during the colder months, and I also like a product with a strong scent.
I fell on Vaseline Radiant Intensive Care Cocoa Body Lotion at Boots and after reading the product description, has been sold.
The product promises to heal dry, itchy skin from the first application and keep it that way for three weeks.
The formula was created from âmicro-droplets of Vaseline jelly, powerful moisturizers and 100% pure cocoa butterâ.
The moisturizer is creamy and very fragrant, so if it’s not for you, I might avoid this one. The scent lasts for hours and makes it a perfect all-day moisturizer. A little goes a long way when it comes to this product too.
I noticed from day one that my skin was noticeably smoother, especially my arms which I have the most trouble with. The rougher parts of my skin felt softer and I enjoyed the cocoa scent all day.
For £ 4 I will definitely refuel.
